A zoonosis is an infectious disease caused by a pathogen that has jumped from a non-human animal (usually a vertebrate) to a human.

An anyon is a generalization of fermion and boson in two-dimensional systems like sheets of graphene that obeys braid statistics.

The axion (/ˈæksiɒn/) is a hypothetical elementary particle postulated by the Peccei–Quinn theory in 1977 to resolve the strong CP problem in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). If axions exist and have low mass within a specific range, they are of interest as a possible component of cold dark matter.

In particle physics, preons are point particles, conceived of as sub-components of quarks, and leptons. The word was coined by Jogesh Pati and Abdus Salam, in 1974.

Ordinary baryons (composite fermions) contain three valence quarks or three valence antiquarks each.

  • Nucleons are the fermionic constituents of normal atomic nuclei:
    • Protons, composed of two up and one down quark (uud)
    • Neutrons, composed of two down and one up quark (ddu)
  • Hyperons, such as the Λ, Σ, Ξ, and Ω particles, which contain one or more strange quarks, are short-lived and heavier than nucleons. Although not normally present in atomic nuclei, they can appear in short-lived hypernuclei.
  • A number of charmed and bottom baryons have also been observed.
  • Pentaquarks consist of four valence quarks and one valence antiquark.
  • Other exotic baryons may also exist.

Phonons are vibrational modes in a crystal lattice.

A magnon is a quasiparticle, a collective excitation of the electrons' spin structure in a crystal lattice. In the equivalent wave picture of quantum mechanics, a magnon can be viewed as a quantized spin wave. Magnons carry a fixed amount of energy and lattice momentum, and are spin-1, indicating they obey boson behavior.

In physics, a magnetic photon is a hypothetical particle. It is a mixture of even and odd C-parity states and, unlike the normal photon, does not couple to leptons. It is predicted by certain extensions of electromagnetism to include magnetic monopoles. There is no experimental evidence for the existence of this particle, and several versions[1] have been ruled out by negative experiments.[2]

The magnetic photon was predicted in 1966 by Nobel laureate Abdus Salam.[3]

"All Roads Lead to Rome" is a proverb of medieval origin
A sacbe, plural sacbeob (Yucatec Maya: singular sakbej, plural sakbejo'ob), or "white way", is a raised paved road built by the Maya civilization of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.[1] Most connect temples, plazas, and groups of structures within ceremonial centers or cities, but some longer roads between cities are also known. The term "sacbe" is Yucatec Maya for "white road"; white perhaps because there is evidence that they were originally coated with limestone stucco or plaster, which was over a stone and rubble fill.[2]

The word "Beh" operates as the root term for "Sacbe" it is a Mayan term for "road, pathway, or trail." Beh is spelled alternately as Be, bej, bey, be, bih, as well as "beel" in the possessive.[3]

It has many distinctions from English concepts of roads, pathways, or trails. Beh's metaphoric meanings are just as important if not more important than its literal meaning of "road." Ethnographers working the lowlands have noted that it means "more than the road you see with your eyes." The term Beh refers to "the road of life".[3]

In the Colonial times "Sacbe" was translated to calzada which is Spanish for "main road/Highway." The literal translation of Sacbe is "white road." This is used to refer to Mayan large constructed roads covered in a white (Sac) surfacing.[3]

Self-similar co-ascent processes and Palm calculus

We discuss certain renormalised first passage bridges of self-similar processes. These processes generalise the Brownian co-ascent, a term recently introduced by Panzo [Panzo, H. (2018). "Scaled penalization of Brownian motion with drift and the Brownian ascent", arXiv preprint arXiv:1803.04157]. Our main result states that the co-ascent of a given process is the process under the Palm distribution of its record measure. We base our notion of Palm distribution on self-similarity, thereby complementing the more common approach of considering Palm distributions related to stationarity or stationarity of increments of the underlying processes.

Aaron's rod refers to any of the staves carried by Moses's brother, Aaron, in the Torah. The Bible tells how, along with Moses's rod, Aaron's rod was endowed with miraculous power during the Plagues of Egypt that preceded the Exodus. There are two occasions where the Bible tells of the rod's power.

Exodus 7:8-13

Aaron’s Staff Becomes a Snake

The staff is first mentioned in the Book of Exodus (chapter 4, verse 2), when God appears to Moses in the burning bush. God asks what Moses has in his hand, and Moses answers "a staff" ("a rod" in the KJV version). The staff is miraculously transformed into a snake and then back into a staff.

Pink noise or 1f noise is a signal or process with a frequency spectrum such that the power spectral density (power per frequency interval) is inversely proportional to the frequency of the signal. In pink noise, each octave interval (halving or doubling in frequency) carries an equal amount of noise energy.

Dunning–Kruger effect

In the field of psychology, the Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with low ability at a task overestimate their own ability. It is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority and comes from the inability of people to recognize their lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of metacognition, people cannot objectively evaluate their competence or incompetence.[1]

The Degrees of Freedom refers to the number of values involved in the calculations that have the freedom to vary. In other words, the degrees of freedom, in general, can be defined as the total number of observations minus the number of independent constraints imposed on the observations. In statistics, the number of degrees of freedom is the number of values in the final calculation of a statistic that are free to vary.[1]
In statistics, a confidence interval (CI) is a type of estimate computed from the statistics of the observed data. This proposes a range of plausible values for an unknown parameter (for example, the mean). The interval has an associated confidence level that the true parameter is in the proposed range.

In statistics, a confidence region is a multi-dimensional generalization of a confidence interval. It is a set of points in an n-dimensional space, often represented as an ellipsoid around a point which is an estimated solution to a problem, although other shapes can occur.

In statistical inference, the concept of a confidence distribution (CD) has often been loosely referred to as a distribution function on the parameter space that can represent confidence intervals of all levels for a parameter of interest. Historically, it has typically been constructed by inverting the upper limits of lower sided confidence intervals of all levels, and it was also commonly associated with a fiducial[1] interpretation (fiducial distribution), although it is a purely frequentist concept.[2] A confidence distribution is NOT a probability distribution function of the parameter of interest, but may still be a function useful for making inferences.[3]

In mathematics, and more specifically in polyhedral combinatorics, a Goldberg polyhedron is a convex polyhedron made from hexagons and pentagons. They were first described by Michael Goldberg (1902–1990) in 1937. They are defined by three properties: each face is either a pentagon or hexagon, exactly three faces meet at each vertex, and they have rotational icosahedral symmetry. They are not necessarily mirror-symmetric; e.g. GP(5,3) and GP(3,5) are enantiomorphs of each other. A Goldberg polyhedron is a dual polyhedron of a geodesic sphere

Navarasa- The Nine Moods
Navarasa means Nine Emotions in which Nava signifies nine and Rasa signifies Emotions. A rasa (Sanskrit: रस, Malayalam: രാസ്യം) literally means "juice, essence or taste".[1][2] It connotes a concept in Indian arts about the aesthetic flavor of any visual, literary or musical work, that evokes an emotion or feeling in the reader or audience, but that cannot be described. Every Rasa corresponds to a particular Bhava. Navarasa means Nine Emotions in which Nava signifies nine and Rasa signifies Emotions. The Natyshastra has carefully described the Bhavas used to create Rasa. The following table states the nine moods (Navarasa) and the corresponding Bhava. Every Rasa is identified with a specific colour for the use in performing arts.

Bio-MEMS is an abbreviation for biomedical (or biological) microelectromechanical systems. Bio-MEMS have considerable overlap, and is sometimes considered synonymous, with lab-on-a-chip (LOC) and micro total analysis systems (μTAS). Bio-MEMS is typically more focused on mechanical parts and microfabrication technologies made suitable for biological applications. On the other hand, lab-on-a-chip is concerned with miniaturization and integration of laboratory processes and experiments into single (often microfluidic) chips. In this definition, lab-on-a-chip devices do not strictly have biological applications, although most do or are amenable to be adapted for biological purposes. Similarly, micro total analysis systems may not have biological applications in mind, and are usually dedicated to chemical analysis. A broad definition for bio-MEMS can be used to refer to the science and technology of operating at the microscale for biological and biomedical applications, which may or may not include any electronic or mechanical functions.[2] The interdisciplinary nature of bio-MEMS combines material sciences, clinical sciences, medicine, surgery, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, optical engineering, chemical engineering, and biomedical engineering.[2] Some of its major applications include genomics, proteomics, molecular diagnostics, point-of-care diagnostics, tissue engineering, single cell analysis and implantable microdevices.

Maj. Gen. Phil Sheridan and General Ulysses S. Grant both referred to habitually referred to Maximilian as “the Imperial buccaneer”.

Buccaneers were a kind of privateers or free sailors peculiar to the Caribbean Sea during the 17th and 18th centuries. Brigandage is the life and practice of highway robbery and plunder. It is practiced by a brigand, a person who usually lives in a gang and lives by pillage and robbery. The word brigand entered English as brigant via French from Italian as early 1400.

Brigadier is a military rank, the seniority of which depends on the country. In some countries, it is a senior rank above colonel, equivalent to a brigadier general, typically commanding a brigade of several thousand soldiers. In other countries, it is a non-commissioned rank.

Impressment, colloquially "the press" or the "press gang", is the taking of men into a military or naval force by compulsion, with or without notice. Navies of several nations used forced recruitment by various means.

Migrants at the Mexico–United States border

In May 2018, the administration under president Donald Trump instituted a "zero tolerance" policy mandating the criminal prosecution of all adults who were referred by immigration authorities for violating immigration laws.[233][234][235] This policy directly led to the large-scale,[236][237] forcible separation of children and parents arriving at the United States-Mexico border,[238] including those seeking asylum from violence in their home countries.[239] Parents were arrested and put into criminal detention, while their children were taken away, classified as unaccompanied alien minors, to be put into child immigrant detention centers.[240][235] Though in June 2018 Trump signed an executive order ostensibly ending the family separation component of his administration's migrant detentions, it continued under alternative justifications into 2019.[241] By the end of 2018 the number of children being held had swelled to a high of nearly 15,000,[242][243] which by August 2019 had been reduced to less than 9,000.[244] In 2019, many experts, including Andrea Pitzer, the author of One Long Night: A Global History of Concentration Camps, have acknowledged the designation of the detention centers as "concentration camps" [245][246] particularly given that the centers, previously cited by Texas officials for more than 150 health violations[247] and reported deaths in custody,[248] reflect a record typical of the history of deliberate substandard healthcare and nutrition in concentration camps.[249] Though some organizations have tried to resist the "concentration camp" label for these facilities,[250][251] hundreds of Holocaust and genocide scholars rejected this resistance via an open letter addressed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.[252]

Political Football Arguments

In political science, democratic backsliding, also known as democratic erosion or de-democratization, is a gradual decline in the quality of democracy. This decline is caused by the state-led weakening of political institutions that sustain the democratic system.

Narcissistic rage is a psychological construct that describes a reaction to narcissistic injury, which is conceptualized as a perceived threat to a narcissist's self-esteem or self-worth. Narcissistic injury (or narcissistic scar) is a phrase used by Sigmund Freud in the 1920s; narcissistic wound and narcissistic blow are further, almost interchangeable terms.[1] The term narcissistic rage was coined by Heinz Kohut in 1972.

The model underlying the construct suggests that narcissistic injury occurs when a narcissist feels that their hidden, "true self" has been revealed. This may be the case when the narcissist experiences a "fall from grace", such as when their hidden behaviors or motivations are revealed, or when their importance is brought into question. Narcissistic injury is a cause of distress and can lead to dysregulation of behaviors as in narcissistic rage.

Narcissistic rage occurs on a continuum, which may range from instances of aloofness and expressions of mild irritation or annoyance to serious outbursts, including violent attacks and murder.[2] Narcissistic rage reactions are not limited to personality disorders and may be also seen in catatonic, paranoid delusion and depressive episodes.[2] It has also been suggested that narcissists have two layers of rage. The first layer of rage can be thought of as a constant anger (towards someone else), with the second layer being a self-aimed wrath.

Kohut and self psychology

Heinz Kohut explored a wide range of rage experiences in his seminal article "Thoughts on Narcissism and Narcissistic Rage" (1972).[14] He considered narcissistic rage as one major form among many, contrasting it especially with mature aggression.[15] Because the very structure of the self itself is weakened in the narcissist, their rage cannot flower into real assertiveness;[16] and they are left instead prone to oversensitivity to perceived or imagined narcissistic injuries resulting in narcissistic rage.[17]

For Kohut, narcissistic rage is related to narcissists' need for total control of their environment, including "the need for revenge, for righting a wrong, for undoing a hurt by whatever means".[18] It is an attempt by the narcissist to turn from a passive sense of victimization to an active role in giving pain to others, while at the same time attempting to rebuild their own (actually false) sense of self-worth. It may also involve self-protection and preservation, with rage serving to restore a sense of safety and power by destroying that which had threatened the narcissist.[18]

Alternatively, according to Kohut, rages can be seen as a result of the shame at being faced with failure.[19] Narcissistic rage is the uncontrollable and unexpected anger that results from a narcissistic injury – a threat to a narcissist's self-esteem or worth. Rage comes in many forms, but all pertain to the same important thing: revenge. Narcissistic rages are based on fear and will endure even after the threat is gone.[20]

To the narcissist, the rage is directed towards the person that they feel has slighted them; to other people, the rage is incoherent and unjust. This rage impairs their cognition, therefore impairing their judgment. During the rage they are prone to shouting, fact distortion and making groundless accusations.[21] In his book The Analysis of the Self, Kohut explains that expressions caused by a sense of things not going the expected way blossom into rage...

French Algeria 1830-1962

The Pieds-Noirs (French pronunciation: [pjenwaʁ], "Black-Feet", singular Pied-Noir) are the people of French and other European origin who were born in Algeria during the period of French rule from 1830 to 1962, and who "returned" to mainland France as soon as Algeria gained independence, or in the months following.

Maximilian never completely defeated the Mexican Republic; Republican forces led by Juárez continued to be active during Maximilian's rule.

This is a complicated issue:
The catalyst for the Spanish-American War was the sinking of the battleship Maine on February 15, 1898. Historians have debated the cause of the Maine's demise for almost 100 years. Was it sabotage or was it an accident? Was the incident engineered by the American side to give the country an excuse for war? The loss of 260 American lives makes the latter theory unlikely. Admiral Hyman G. Rickover wrote a scholarly thesis on the subject, claiming that the explosion that ripped through the Maine's lower decks was caused by oily rags which led to an uncontrollable fire that ignited a magazine full of ammunition. Whatever the reason, the United States declared war on Spain on April 11, 1898, with the avowed purpose of freeing the oppressed Cubans. During the Spanish-American War in 1898, there were several Hispanic members of Theodore Roosevelt's "Rough Riders." Captain Maximiliano Luna was the most distinguished Hispanic "Rough Rider." A military camp in New Mexico was named after him. After the Spanish American War, George Armijo, another Hispanic "Rough Rider," became a member of Congress. (18:22-23)

1921 conference

Bell, Cox and Lawrence were among a select group of "Orientalists" convened by Winston Churchill to attend a 1921 Conference in Cairo to determine the boundaries of the British mandate (e.g., "the British Partitions") and nascent states such as Iraq.[8]:365–369 Gertrude is supposed to have described Lawrence as being able "to ignite fires in cold rooms".[34]

Throughout the conference, she, Cox and Lawrence worked tirelessly to promote the establishment of the countries of Transjordan and Iraq to be presided over by the Kings Abdullah and Faisal, sons of the instigator of the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire (ca. 1915–1916), Hussein bin Ali, Sharif and Emir of Mecca.[8]:365–369 Until her death in Baghdad, she served in the Iraq British High Commission advisory group there.

Bell opposed the Zionist movement, on the grounds that it would be unfair to impose Jewish rule on Arab inhabitants of Palestine. She wrote that she regarded the Balfour Declaration with "the deepest mistrust" and that "It's like a nightmare in which you foresee all the horrible things which are going to happen and can`t stretch out your hand to prevent them".[35][36]

Mark Sykes, the British diplomat responsible for the Sykes–Picot Agreement, was not fond of her.[37]

The beginning of the new Crown's power with clear lines of authority to officials contrasted to the complex system of government that evolved under the Habsburg monarchs.[1] For example, the crown pursued state supremacy over the Catholic Church, pushed economic reforms, and placed power solely into the hands of civil officials.[2]

Jinn (Arabic: جن‎, jinn), also Romanized as djinn or Anglicized as genies (with the broader meaning of spirits or demons, depending on source),[1][2] are supernatural creatures in early pre-Islamic Arabian and later Islamic mythology and theology. Like humans, they are created with fitra, neither born as believers nor as unbelievers, but their attitude depends on whether they accept God's guidance.[3] Since jinn are neither innately evil nor innately good, Islam acknowledged spirits from other religions, and was able to adapt spirits from other religions during its expansion. Jinn are not a strictly Islamic concept; they may represent several pagan beliefs integrated into Islam.[a][5]

In an Islamic context, the term jinn is used for both a collective designation for any supernatural creature and also to refer to a specific type of supernatural creature.[6] Therefore, jinn are often mentioned together with devils/demons (shayāṭīn). Both devils and jinn feature in folklore and are held responsible for misfortune, possession and diseases. However, the jinn are sometimes supportive and benevolent. They are mentioned frequently in magical works throughout the Islamic world, to be summoned and bound to a sorcerer, but also in zoological treatises as animals with a subtle body.

Cinq à sept (French: [sɛ̃kasɛt], literally 'five to seven') is a French-language term for activities taking place after work and before returning home (sometimes using overtime as an excuse), or for having dinner (roughly between 5 and 7 p.m.).

Cinq à sept originally referred to a time for a tryst, and consequently is a metonym for visit to one's mistress, an extramarital affair, and the mistress involved. It derived from the time of day French people would make such a visit. It is still commonly considered as the time of day to meet one's mistress or lover, and the term implies a sexual liaison (as opposed to the Quebec habit).

So far, there remains a chasm between the ideas of modern physical science and those of the Esoteric Philosophy on the nature of the atom.

The former is incapable of answering the psychological and metaphysical side of the question and prefers to examine only the external physical properties of things. The latter teaches that there is no such thing as inorganic lifeless substance. Even the chemical atoms are endowed with force and life.

For the scientist the bridge between matter on one side and consciousness, intelligence and life-force on the other may be found in the theories of the philosopher and mathematician Gottfried Leibniz (1646-1716).

Leibniz may be considered one of the great thinkers of the 17th and 18th Centuries.  He developed calculus independently from Isaac Newton, formulated mathematical notations that are still used today, and lay the foundation for the modern digital computer by defining what has become the modern binary system and developing the first mass-produced mechanical calculator. He also developed a philosophy of mind and a theory of the monad. The term “monad” was first used by Leibniz to describe indivisible immaterial soul-like entities. Leibniz taught that all objects where endowed with an active principle or force. They were not lifeless or inert – which is the claim of the Esoteric Philosophy.

Gottfried Leibnitz, or Leibniz as he preferred to spell his name, has been called one of the “last universal geniuses” because he is considered by many to have been one of the last in a lineage of intellectual geniuses to have a universal grasp of knowledge. Although he is mostly remembered for his accomplishments in philosophy and mathematics, he had a remarkable encyclopedic knowledge and made contributions to many fields of human endeavor.

The uniqueness of his genius was the blending of intuitive and rational philosopher, practical and theoretical mathematician, psychological and physical scientist, ethicist and political-social reformer. Although he was not an Initiate or Mystic, he attempted to construct a synthesis of Science, Religion and Philosophy and a universal philosophical language. His understanding of the Monad comes very close to that of the Esoteric Philosophy of “The Secret Doctrine.”

As a philosopher he began with universal conceptions. Unlike Descartes, who regarded thought and matter as two different, separated, and irreducible substances, Leibniz taught that thought and matter were two attributes of one universal unity he saw as God. He conceived of a plurality of substances and an infinitude of divine and semi-divine beings proceeding from the, and situated in the, One Reality. As the spiritual essence vivifying all these beings was one, he concluded that there must be an infinite gradation of thought and that the entire universe is endowed with consciousness.

For Leibniz, the ultimate unit of the universe was not a physical atomic particle, rather it was a center of spiritual, intelligent force capable of interacting with other centers to produce all the spiritual and physical phenomena. He called these uncompounded, elementary, indestructible units – or souls – “Monads.” He invented the term “apperception” to express the state of Monadic consciousness, and distinguished it from the self-consciousness of the human being.

As a scientist he evolved his theories from observed phenomena and reasoning from particulars to universals. He observed that a only a small portion of our thoughts rise into the light of self-conscious awareness and many remain in a confused or obscured state of perception for awhile, yet they are still there. He concluded that there is a wide range of mental life hidden from our perception but still present in all the kingdoms of nature. He also observed that external objects only appear to extend in space because of the capacity of our gross physical senses. He concluded that as matter is divided into infinitely small parts, or atoms, at some point it can no longer be said to extend geometrically in space, but its spiritual essence can extend infinitely in the metaphysical realm of thought.

As a mathematician he understood that a geometrical figure such as a cone stands on a mathematical point and that a perpendicular line intersects a horizontal line at a mathematical point even though they can extend infinitely in height and depth. He concluded that an atom was only a mathematical point in space that in reality extended infinitely into the inner realm of universal thought.

His views indefinitely extend within the atom the realm of conscious life. As a result he breaks down the contrast between animate and inanimate matter. Both are vivified by the monadic essence that, embracing the potential of all material forms and degrees of intelligence, mirrors the entire universe. Indeed, it is the entire universe in reality. Everything that comes forth from the Monad does so under natural law. Hence, he daringly called our earthly experience “the best of all possible worlds.”

As a moral philosopher, Leibniz equated ethics with the science of law. He viewed God as the supreme monad that is the infinite absolute reality and unity. He declared that God was all good that established harmony among all things. He taught that the ethical life was the attempt to imitate God.

The description by Leibniz on the nature of the monads is practically identical to that of the Esoteric Philosophy; however, there is an important distinction between the two systems.

Both agree that the essence of every monad is one living active spiritual force. So, that while each monadic unit is a soul different from every other monadic unit, every monad in its spiritual essence is the expression and mirror of the universe.

For Leibniz, the entire universe is represented in the monads. Some of its portions are reflected in one monad, and some in another.  This gives them a qualitative and even quantitative difference from each other.

Leibniz formulates the idea that monads are souls whose inherent nature is to act. They are not passive mirrors of the universe. They are active agents whose images produce the universe. The inherent creative quality of the monad is also taught in the Esoteric Philosophy.

“Monads, he thought (as we do), are everywhere. Thus the human soul is a monad and every cell in the human body has its monad, as every cell in animal, vegetable, and even in the (so-called) inorganic bodies.” (“The Secret Doctrine”, vol. I, p. 630, fn)

Where the view of Leibniz diverges from the Esoteric Philosophy is in the fact that he makes no provision for the evolution of the monads, nor does he distinguish between the “monad” of an elemental, human monad, high planetary spirit, or Dhyan–Chohan. According to H.P. Blavatsky, the concepts of Leibniz “ however incomplete and faulty from the standpoint of Occultism, show a spirit of metaphysical intuition to which no man of science, not Descartes – not even Kant – has ever reached.” (“The Secret Doctrine”, vol. I, p. 627)

Haram

Religion
Haram is an Arabic term meaning ‘forbidden’. This may refer to: either something sacred to which access is forbidden to the people who are not in a state of purity or who are not initiated into the sacred knowledge, or, in direct contrast, to an evil and thus "sinful action that is forbidden to be done".

harass (v.)

1610s, "to lay waste, devastate" (obsolete); 1620s, "to vex by repeated attacks," from French harasser "tire out, vex" (16c.), which is of uncertain origin; possibly from Old French harer "stir up, provoke; set a dog on" (according to Watkins, from Frankish *hara "over here, hither," from Proto-Germanic *hi‑, from PIE *ki-, variant form of root *ko-, the stem of demonstrative pronoun meaning "this"), and perhaps blended with Old French harier "to harry, draw, drag" [Barnhart]. Related: Harassed; harassing.

Harass, as applied to mind or body, suggests the infliction of the weariness that comes from the continuance or repetition of trying experiences, so that there is not time for rest. Torment implies the infliction of acute pain, physical or mental, and is frequently used in the sense of harassing by frequent return. [Century Dictionary, 1897]
One of the biggest red flags of an unhealthy or abusive relationship is name calling. It's considered abusive behavior because it labels one partner as something negative -- you're dumb, ugly, stupid, fat, unlovable-- without acknowledging or considering their feelings.

Verbally abusive relationships can include subtle (and not so subtle) abuses of power.

WOMEN

ii. IN AVESTA

The egalitarian ideals of Zoroastrianism—in particular, the recognition of women as “men’s partners in the common struggle against evil” (Boyce, 1972, p.  308, fn. 83) have long served to protect the dignified status of women within the Mazdayasnian community. Such notions of gender parity are firmly rooted in the teachings of the Avesta and reflect the character of early Iranian society (Schwartz, p.  4) as well as bestow “a modern appearance on this ancient religion” (Hintze, 2003, p.  403)

A diya, diyo, deya, divaa, deepa, deepam, or deepak is an oil lamp used in the Indian subcontinent, notably India and Nepal, usually made from clay, with a cotton wick dipped in ghee or vegetable oils. Diyas are native to the Indian subcontinent often used in Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Zoroastrian religious festivals such as Diwali[2] or the Kushti ceremony.

Aarti also spelled arti, arati, arathi, aarati, aarthi, aarthy, arthy (In Devanagari: आरती ārtī) is a Hindu religious ritual of worship, a part of puja, in which light (usually from a flame) is offered to one or more deities. Aarti(s) also refers to the songs sung in praise of the deity, when the light is being offered.

There's nomainroutine, as there is in languages like C or Java. In fact, many programs don't even have routines (in the form of subroutines).

Data type

In computer science and computer programming, a data type or simply type is an attribute of data which tells the compiler or interpreter how the programmer intends to use the data. Most programming languages support common data types of real, integer and boolean. A data type constrains the values that an expression, such as a variable or a function, might take. This data type defines the operations that can be done on the data, the meaning of the data, and the way values of that type can be stored. A type of value from which an expression may take its value.
A property, in some object-oriented programming languages, is a special sort of class member, intermediate in functionality between a field (or data member) and a method.
A method in object-oriented programming (OOP) is a procedure associated with a message and an object.

What are the four main oops concepts?

OOPs, concepts in Java are the main ideas behind Java's Object Oriented Programming. They are an abstraction, encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism.

Subroutine

In computer programming, a subroutine is a sequence of program instructions that performs a specific task, packaged as a unit. This unit can then be used in programs wherever that particular task should be performed.

Subprograms may be defined within programs, or separately in libraries that can be used by many programs. In different programming languages, a subroutine may be called a procedure, a function, a routine, a method, or a subprogram. The generic term callable unit is sometimes used.

Function (mathematics)

A mathematical proof is an argument which convinces other people that something is true. Math isn't a court of law, so a “preponderance of the evidence” or “beyond any reasonable doubt” isn't good enough.

This concept of a mathematical argument via functional programming is how one may develop a logic engine:

Phreaking is a slang term coined to describe the activity of a culture of people who study, experiment with, or explore telecommunication systems, such as equipment and systems connected to public telephone networks. The term phreak is a sensational spelling of the word freak with the ph- from phone, and may also refer to the use of various audio frequencies to manipulate a phone system. Phreak, phreaker, or phone phreak are names used for and by individuals who participate in phreaking.

The term first referred to groups who had reverse engineered the system of tones used to route long-distance calls. By re-creating these tones, phreaks could switch calls from the phone handset, allowing free calls to be made around the world. To ease the creation of these tones, electronic tone generators known as blue boxes became a staple of the phreaker community, a group of people that included future Apple Inc. cofounders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

The blue box era came to an end with the ever-increasing use of computerized phone systems, which sent dialing information on a separate, inaccessible channel. By the 1980s, much of the system in the US and Western Europe had been converted. Phreaking has since become closely linked with computer hacking.[1] This is sometimes called the H/P culture (with H standing for hacking and P standing for phreaking).

Zoroastrianism, the ancient pre-Islamic religion of Iran that survives there in isolated areas and, more prosperously, in India, where the descendants of Zoroastrian Iranian (Persian) immigrants are known as Parsis, or Parsees.

Zoroastrians believe that there is one universal, transcendent, all-good, and uncreated supreme creator deity, Ahura Mazda, or the "Wise Lord".

Freedom of religion is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance. It also includes the freedom to change one's religion or beliefs.

Skein relation

Skein relations are a mathematical tool used to study knots. A central question in the mathematical theory of knots is whether two knot diagrams represent the same knot. One way to answer the question is using knot polynomials, which are invariants of the knot. If two diagrams have different polynomials, they represent different knots. In general, the converse does not hold

Alexander polynomial

In knot theory, the cinquefoil knot, also known as Solomon's seal knot or the pentafoil knot, is one of two knots with crossing number five, the other being the three-twist knot. It is listed as the 51 knot in the Alexander-Briggs notation, and can also be described as the (5,2)-torus knot. The cinquefoil is the closed version of the double overhand knot.

A span represents a single operation within a trace. Spans can be nested to form a trace tree.

In quantum mechanics, the spin–statistics theorem relates the intrinsic spin of a particle (angular momentum not due to the orbital motion) to the particle statistics it obeys.
In units of the reduced Planck constant h, all particles that move in 3 dimensions have either integer spin or half-integer spin.

String (computer science)

In computer programming, a string is traditionally a sequence of characters, either as a literal constant or as some kind of variable.
The TCP/IP model consists of five layers: the application layer, transport layer, network layer, data link layer and physical layer.

Spintronics (also known as spin-based electronics) is an emerging technology that exploits the intrinsic spin transport of electrons other than their fundamental electronic charge.

Threaded code

In computer science, the term threaded code refers to a programming technique where the code has a form that essentially consists entirely of calls to subroutines. It is often, but not only, found in compiler implementations that generate code in that form and/or are implemented in that form themselves. The code may be processed by an interpreter, or may simply be a sequence of machine code call instructions.

A node is a basic unit of a data structure, such as a linked list or tree data structure. Nodes contain data and also may link to other nodes. Links between nodes are often implemented by pointers.

In computer science, a linked list is a linear collection of data elements, whose order is not given by their physical placement in memory. Instead, each element points to the next. It is a data structure consisting of a collection of nodes which together represent a sequence. In its most basic form, each node contains: data, and a reference (in other words, a link) to the next node in the sequence.

The merger of four major firms into the German Steel Trust (Vereinigte Stahlwerke) in 1926 was modeled on the U.S. Steel corporation in the U.S. The goal was to move beyond the limitations of the old cartel system by incorporating advances simultaneously inside a single corporation. The new company emphasized rationalization of management structures and modernization of the technology; it employed a multi-divisional structure and used return on investment as its measure of success.[1] it represented the "Americanization" of the German steel industry because its internal structure, management methods, use of technology, and emphasis on mass production replicated the Steel Trust developed a multi-divisional structure and aimed at return on investment as a measure of success. The chief difference was that consumer capitalism as an industrial strategy did not seem plausible to German steel industrialists.

Houston riot of 1917

The Camp Logan Mutiny (also called the Houston Riot of 1917) was a reaction by 156 soldiers of the Third Battalion of the all-black Twenty-fourth United States Infantry Regiment after members of the Houston Police Department harassed members of the local black community and the black soldiers who attempted to intervene were also violently accosted. It took place over a single night, and resulted in the deaths of 11 civilians, five policemen, and four soldiers. The soldiers were tried at three courts-martial for mutiny. Nineteen were executed, and 41 were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Gregg Andrews, author of Thyra J. Edwards: Black Activist in the Global Freedom Struggle, wrote that the event "shook race relations in the city and created conditions that helped to spark a statewide surge of wartime racial activism".

Physiocracy (French: Physiocratie; from the Greek for "government of nature") is an economic theory developed by a group of 18th-century Enlightenment French economists who believed that the wealth of nations was derived solely from the value of "land agriculture" or "land development" and that agricultural products should be highly priced. Their theories originated in France and were most popular during the second half of the 18th century. Physiocracy is one of the first well-developed theories of economics.

The movement was particularly dominated by François Quesnay (1694–1774) and Anne-Robert-Jacques Turgot (1727–1781). It immediately preceded the first modern school, classical economics, which began with the publication of Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations in 1776.

Insurers invest in private equity and hedge funds for the same reasons as other institutional investors: to obtain higher returns, to increase diversification (thereby reducing risk), and to access additional or emerging asset classes.

How Do Arbitrage and Hedging Differ?

General equilibrium theory

In economics, general equilibrium theory attempts to explain the behavior of supply, demand, and prices in a whole economy with several or many interacting markets, by seeking to prove that the interaction of demand and supply will result in an overall general equilibrium. General equilibrium theory contrasts to the theory of partial equilibrium, which only analyzes single markets. In general equilibrium, constant influences are considered to be noneconomic, therefore, resulting beyond the natural scope of economic analysis.[1]

Green Lease Leadership meet Grassroots Leadership

Magi (/ˈm/; singular magus /ˈmɡəs/; from Latin magus) were priests in Zoroastrianism and the earlier religions of the western Iranians. The earliest known use of the word magi is in the trilingual inscription written by Darius the Great, known as the Behistun Inscription. Old Persian texts, predating the Hellenistic period, refer to a magus as a Zurvanic, and presumably Zoroastrian, priest.

Pervasive throughout the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Asia until late antiquity and beyond, mágos was influenced by (and eventually displaced) Greek goēs (γόης), the older word for a practitioner of magic, to include astronomy/astrology, alchemy and other forms of esoteric knowledge. This association was in turn the product of the Hellenistic fascination for (Pseudo‑)Zoroaster, who was perceived by the Greeks to be the Chaldean founder of the Magi and inventor of both astrology and magic, a meaning that still survives in the modern-day words "magic" and "magician".

In the Gospel of Matthew, "μάγοι" (magoi) from the east do homage to the newborn Jesus, and the transliterated plural "magi" entered English from Latin in this context around 1200 (this particular use is also commonly rendered in English as "kings" and more often in recent times as "wise men"). The singular "magus" appears considerably later, when it was borrowed from Old French in the late 14th century with the meaning magician.

What are the railroad barons?

The Railroad Tycoons, Driving The Industry's Early Growth. The tycoons were the early industrial pioneers amassing or overseeing construction of many large railroads through the early 20th century. ... One of the first and best remembered tycoons was Cornelius Vanderbilt, better known as the "Commodore."

What railroad did Vanderbilt own?

CORNELIUS VANDERBILT (1794 -1877) WAS THE FOUNDER OF THE VANDERBILT FAMILY AND THE NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD SYSTEM. HE WAS KNOWN AS THE COMMODORE, OR COMMODORE CORNELIUS VANDERBILT.

Who were the big four of the transcontinental railroad?

The Big Four was a group of four American merchants—Leland Stanford, Mark Hopkins, Collis P. Huntington, and Charles Crocker—who created the Central Pacific Railroad company. The Big Four founded the Central Pacific in 1861 and were responsible for building part of the first American transcontinental line.

How did the railroads hurt the farmers?

Shipping costs were the prices that people had to pay to ship goods using the railroads. They became extremely high and farmers felt like they were being overcharged. I feel like it mostly hurt the farmers because: So many people became farmers that it caused an overproduction of crops which caused prices to drop.

A Commodity pool operator (CPO) is an individual or organization that solicits or receives funds to use in the operation of a commodity pool, syndicate, investment trust, or other similar fund, specifically for trading in commodity interests.

Prescott Bush, the Hitler Project, and the Secret Government

Nazi Links: The relevant species history begins with E.H. Harriman acquiring the bankrupt Union Pacific Railroad, financed through the British royal family’s private financier, Sir Ernst Cassel, Cassel’s New York partner Jacob Schiff, and members of the Rockefeller family. Like everything else on Wall Street, the financiers traded on what others had created. In 1919, G.H. (Bert) Walker, a St. Louis-born, British-schooled operative of British and Morgan bankers, set up a private bank for E.H. Harriman’s sons, Averell and Roland, W.A. Harriman and Company.

In 1926, Bert brought his son-in-law, Prescott Bush, into this enterprise, Prescott and Roland Harriman having sworn lifetime blood oaths to each other as members of Yale’s secret satanic Skull and Bones society. Beginning in 1920, W.A. Harriman and Company under Bert Walker’s direction, began looting post-World War I Germany, acquiring control over shipping (the Hamburg-America ship line), and buying into steel production and raw materials. When the Depression hit, W.A. Harriman merged with Brown Brothers, the British family investment firm of Montagu Norman, the pro-Nazi head of the Bank of England. Brown Brothers Harriman was the largest private investment bank in the United States, and Prescott Bush was installed as its managing director. According to his account, Prescott presided over the weekly Thursday partners meeting at the firm, assisted by “silent and properly attired British floor attendants.”

Prescott Bush presided over a banking complex tightly interwoven with the funding centers for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. Most notable was their subsidiary, the Union Banking Corporation (UBC), a money-management front for Fritz Thyssen, the leading German steel and coal tycoon. Brown Brothers Harriman was also the bank of the Consolidated Silesian Steel Company, which included Thyssen’s Nazi business partner Friedrich Flick among its owners, and utilized slave labor from Auschwitz in its operations. In addition, Bush was the director of a number of companies associated with Thyssen, including the Silesian American Corporation. Thyssen, by his own account, was the chief financier of Hitler’s rise to power in Germany. By the late 1930s, Brown Brothers Harriman had bought and shipped millions of dollars of gold, fuel, steel, coal, and U.S. Treasury bonds to Germany, both feeding and financing Hitler’s war build-up.

consider

The lawyers for Brown Brothers Harriman in their Nazi dealings were the Dulles brothers, John Foster and Allen Dulles, both of whom were intimates of Prescott Bush throughout their lifetimes. John Foster Dulles continued his support for Hitler right up to Hitler’s attack on Britain, promoting Hitler as a marcher lord who would destroy emergent Russia. He was joined in this project by Montagu Norman, then at the Bank of England and formerly at Brown Brothers, the family bank, who coordinated the Hitler project for the British elites.

Railroad Magnate, Edward H. Harriman

In the Autumn of 1942, the U.S. government seized the assets of UBC and Silesian American Corporation under the Trading with the Enemy Act.

Any remaining doubt about Prescott Bush’s witting participation in the Anglo-American Hitler project is removed when the 1932 International Congress of Eugenics is considered, together with Prescott’s lifelong devotion to eugenics and population control. The Congress was held at New York’s American Museum of Natural History and paid for by Averell Harriman, Bush’s favorite partner. It featured Nazi doctor Ernst Rudin, who was unanimously elected by the assembled as President of the International Federation of Eugenics Societies. The society advocated sterilization of mental patients, execution of the insane, criminals, and the terminally ill, and race purification by preventing births to parents of “inferior blood stocks.” These measures were allegedly necessary to prevent lesser breeds from monopolizing the world’s finite resources.

Rumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today's president

When Franklin Delano Roosevelt took office in 1933, he threw down the gauntlet to Prescott and his ilk in his first inaugural speech, condemning the money-changers of Wall Street: “They have no vision and when there is no vision the people perish. Yes, the money changers have fled from their high seat in the temple of our civilization. We may now restore the temple to ancient truths. The measure of that restoration lies in the extent to which we apply social values more noble than mere monetary profit.” Prescott Bush hated FDR, remarking later: “The only man I truly hated lies buried in Hyde Park.” Upon FDR’s death, Prescott, the Dulles brothers, and their Wall Street friends went to work dismantling FDR’s America, replacing it with the structures of speculative finance and the Cold War national security state.

The Cornish Miners
—or, in America, the “Cousin Jacks”

Originally from Cornwall, Cornish miners like Matthew Penhallow and James Reskelly’s father played a critical role in opening the American West by providing the knowledge and experience necessary to extract the rich veins of gold, copper, and silver that lay hidden deep within the earth. When these men and their families came to America, they brought with them strong religious convictions, a great love for music, and a vivid imagination.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

H.R. 803, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act was signed into law on July 22, 2014. This legislation, serving as a reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act, directed the workforce system to develop regional plans in conjunction with Adult Education and Vocational Rehabilitation, and develop industry cluster initiatives as an integral part of regional activities.

Texas Senate Bill 208 instructs TWC, DARS, and HHSC to develop a plan to ensure the transition is accomplished in a careful and deliberative manner. Transfers the Vocational Rehabilitation program from DARS to TWC to improve employment outcomes for people with disabilities. I am developing a Small Business of Innovative Research and am detailing mission statements for corporate development citing: Texas Labor Code, Section 352.101

I have met with Matt "Teo" Gonzales, Organizer with the South West Laborer's District Council and Jeremy Hendricks with the South West Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust here in Austin, Texas and have received a quote to source labor with Kyle Kerrigan from Good Will of Central Texas on work tasks for a Texas DPS contract recently. I have contacted Texas State Technical College inquiring of internship programs and sourcing students into labor pools and contacted A&M, UT, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to develop a corporate advisory panel to file articles of incorporation with. I have also recently contacted Edward Serna from the Texas Workforce Commission and Dennis Borel from the Texas Coalition for People with Disabilities in an email titled: 'Transition Plan DARS services to TWC and Ethical labor sourcing with prison labor and robotic automation considerations'

I requested a meeting with the TWC, Texas Workforce Commission in this email stating:

"I would like to schedule a meeting with the Texas Coalition for People with Disabilities and to schedule a meeting with the Texas Workforce Commission to address developing labor pools for those with disabilities as well addressing the 'Human Convention' of labor pool development with trends of prison labor here in Texas and in the U.S. as well as emerging technologies with automated robotic labor pools."

I am sending this email out to you via SBA and PTAC networking this Friday evening in hopes that you may receive it on Monday morning. I would care for a response from you for development direction concerning HR 803, SB 208 and TX Labor Code 352.101. Would you kindly respond to this email and suggest a time when we may schedule a meeting by telephone to discuss this matter more?

Fidelity bond

A fidelity bond is a form of insurance protection that covers policyholders for losses that they incur as a result of fraudulent acts by specified individuals. It usually insures a business for losses caused by the dishonest acts of its employees.

While called bonds, these obligations to protect an employer from employee-dishonesty losses are really insurance policies. These insurance policies protect from losses of company monies, securities, and other property from employees who have a manifest intent to i) cause the company to sustain a loss and ii) obtain an improper financial benefit, either for themselves or another party. There are also many other coverage extensions available through the purchase of additional insuring agreements. These are common to most crime insurance policies (burglary, fire, general theft, computer theft, disappearance, fraud, forgery, etc.) and are designed to further protect specific company assets.

Corporate Insurance Considerations caused by the dishonest acts of its employees, optimizing SSI with AI, Texas Juvenile Justice Department and Texas Disparity WIOA strategic public private partnership:

Ethics or moral philosophy is a branch[1] of philosophy that "involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong behavior".[2] The field of ethics, along with aesthetics, concerns matters of value, and thus comprises the branch of philosophy called axiology.[3]

Ethics seeks to resolve questions of human morality by defining concepts such as good and evil, right and wrong, virtue and vice, justice and crime. As a field of intellectual inquiry, moral philosophy also is related to the fields of moral psychology, descriptive ethics, and value theory.

Three major areas of study within ethics recognized today are:[2]

  1. Meta-ethics, concerning the theoretical meaning and reference of moral propositions, and how their truth values (if any) can be determined
  2. Normative ethics, concerning the practical means of determining a moral course of action
  3. Applied ethics, concerning what a person is obligated (or permitted) to do in a specific situation or a particular domain of action.[2]

Appetitus divitiarum infinitus means ‘unlimited lust for gain’

touched in the head

Also, touched. A little bit crazy, somewhat deranged, as in I think the war left him a little touched in the head. [ Late 1800s]

Appetitus divitiarum infinitus means ‘unlimited lust for gain’. And this lust for gain – as its adherents contend – is eating up capitalism from inside. Pope Francis is one of the adherents of this theory. Through ‘Evangelii Gaudium’ – his official proclamation – he voiced his concern about the ‘new tyranny’ of ‘unfettered capitalism’, attacking the ‘idolatry of money’, and decrying the absence of economic equality, high joblessness and increasing misery. He is not the first one to voice such concerns. Pope Leo XIII in his encyclical ‘Rerum Novarum’ (1891) and Pope Pius XI in his encyclical ‘Quadragessimo Anno’ (1931) touched upon the same issue. Hussain H Zaidi’s excellent article also touched upon this aspect of capitalism.

Boiler room (business)

In business, the term boiler room refers to an outbound call center selling questionable investments by telephone. It usually refers to a room where salespeople work using unfair, dishonest sales tactics, sometimes selling penny stocks, private placements or committing outright stock fraud. The use of falsified and bolstered information along with verified company released information is oftentimes adopted.[1] The term carries a negative connotation, and is often used to imply high-pressure sales tactics and, sometimes, poor working conditions.

BACK TO WORK WIOA Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI) is a widely used serial interface standard for industrial applications between a master (e.g. controller) and a slave (e.g. sensor). SSI is based on RS-422[1] standards and has a high protocol efficiency in addition to its implementation over various hardware platforms, making it very popular among sensor manufacturers. SSI was originally developed by Max Stegmann GmbH in 1984 for transmitting the position data of absolute encoders – for this reason, some servo/drive equipment manufacturers refer to their SSI port as a "Stegmann Interface". It was formerly covered by the German patent DE 34 45 617 which expired in 1990. It is very suitable for applications demanding reliability and robustness in measurements under varying industrial environments.

It is different from the Serial Peripheral Interface Bus (SPI): An SSI bus is differential, simplex, non-multiplexed, and relies on a time-out to frame the data. An SPI bus is single-ended, duplex, and uses a select-line to frame the data. However, SPI peripherals on microcontrollers can implement SSI with external differential driver-ICs and program-controlled timing.

DOPE, or Discrete Optimized Protein Energy, is a statistical potential used to assess homology models in protein structure prediction. DOPE is based on an improved reference state that corresponds to noninteracting atoms in a homogeneous sphere with the radius dependent on a sample native structure; it thus accounts for the finite and spherical shape of the native structures. It is implemented in the popular homology modeling program MODELLER and used to assess the energy of the protein model generated through many iterations by MODELLER, which produces homology models by the satisfaction of spatial restraints. The models returning the minimum molpdfs can be chosen as best probable structures and can be further used for evaluating with the DOPE score. Like the current version of the MODELLER software, DOPE is implemented in Python and is run within the MODELLER environment. The DOPE method is generally used to assess the quality of a structure model as a whole. Alternatively, DOPE can also generate a residue-by-residue energy profile for the input model, making it possible for the user to spot the problematic region in the structure model.

MODELLER is used for homology or comparative modeling of protein three-dimensional structures

A mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK or MAP kinase) is a type of protein kinase that is specific to the amino acids serine and threonine (i.e., a serine/threonine-specific protein kinase). MAPKs are involved in directing cellular responses to a diverse array of stimuli, such as mitogens, osmotic stress, heat shock and proinflammatory cytokines. They regulate cell functions including proliferation, gene expression, differentiation, mitosis, cell survival, and apoptosis.[1]

This same metaphor is also echoed from the scientist's side: "β sheets do not show a stiff repetitious regularity but flow in graceful, twisting curves, and even the α-helix is regular more in the manner of a flower stem, whose branching nodes show the influence of environment, developmental history, and the evolution of each part to match its own idiosyncratic function."[12]
The β-sheet (also β-pleated sheet) is a common motif of regular secondary structure in proteins. Beta sheets consist of beta strands (also β-strand) connected laterally by at least two or three backbone hydrogen bonds, forming a generally twisted, pleated sheet. A β-strand is a stretch of polypeptide chain typically 3 to 10 amino acids long with backbone in an extended conformation. The supramolecular association of β-sheets has been implicated in formation of the protein aggregates and fibrils observed in many human diseases, notably the amyloidoses such as Alzheimer's disease.

Figure 1. Schematic view of the cortico - basal ganglia - thalamus network (CBG) in primates. In black are showed the connections considered in the "classical" model: the BG works a three layers network - with 2 inputs (STN and STR), 2 outputs (GPi/SNr) and 1 intermediary layer (GPe) - encompassed in a broad feedback loop to the cortex through the thalamus. In grey are showed connections that have been evidenced or emphasized in the last decade. GPe: Globus Pallidus pars Externa; GPi: Globus Pallidus pars Interna; SNr: Substantia Nigra pars Reticulata; STN: Subthalamic nucleus; STR: Striatum.

The model has had some impact on neural science in recent years, as studies have suggested that the phasic activity of dopamine neurons in mesostriatal DA projections in the midbrain encodes for the type of prediction error detailed in the model.[1]

The Rescorla–Wagner model was created by Yale psychologists Robert A. Rescorla and Allan R. Wagner in 1972.

Bicyclic semigroup

In mathematics, the bicyclic semigroup is an algebraic object important for the structure theory of semigroups. Although it is in fact a monoid, it is usually referred to as simply a semigroup. It is perhaps most easily understood as the syntactic monoid describing the Dyck language of balanced pairs of parentheses. Thus, it finds common applications in combinatorics, such as describing binary trees and associative algebras.

noun: octogenarian; plural noun: octogenarians
  1. a person who is from 80 to 89 years old.
In mathematics, a band (also called idempotent semigroup) is a semigroup in which every element is idempotent (in other words equal to its own square). Bands were first studied and named by A. H. Clifford (1954); the lattice of varieties of bands was described independently in the early 1970s by Biryukov, Fennemore and Gerhard.[1] Semilattices, left-zero bands, right-zero bands, rectangular bands, normal bands, left-regular bands, right-regular bands and regular bands, specific subclasses of bands that lie near the bottom of this lattice, are of particular interest and are briefly described below.

Magma (algebra)

In abstract algebra, a magma, binar[1] or groupoid is a basic kind of algebraic structure. Specifically, a magma consists of a set equipped with a single binary operation that must be closed by definition. No other properties are imposed.

Free magma

Volcanic!

Magma (from Ancient Greek μάγμα (mágma) meaning "thick unguent"[1]) is the molten or semi-molten natural material from which all igneous rocks are formed.[2] Magma is found beneath the surface of the Earth, and evidence of magmatism has also been discovered on other terrestrial planets and some natural satellites.[3] Besides molten rock, magma may also contain suspended crystals and gas bubbles.[4

Z-factor

The Z-factor is a measure of statistical effect size. It has been proposed for use in high-throughput screening (where it is also known as Z-prime,[1] and commonly written as Z' to judge whether the response in a particular assay is large enough to warrant further attention.

(say it like an American impersonating a French person, Z-Factor...)
In mathematics, a factorisation of a free monoid is a sequence of subsets of words with the property that every word in the free monoid can be written as a concatenation of elements drawn from the subsets. The Chen–Fox–Lyndon theorem states that the Lyndon words furnish a factorisation. The Schützenberger theorem relates the definition in terms of a multiplicative property to an additive property

Harping about busking an opera for the Pecan festival in Austin Texas
In abstract algebra, the free monoid on a set is the monoid whose elements are all the finite sequences (or strings) of zero or more elements from that set, with string concatenation as the monoid operation and with the unique sequence of zero elements, often called the empty string and denoted by ε or λ, as the identity element.

Hey, the monoid is free...

In abstract algebra, a branch of mathematics, a monoid is a set equipped with an associative binary operation and an identity element.

Monoids are semigroups with identity. Such algebraic structures occur in several branches of mathematics.

For example, the functions from a set into itself form a monoid with respect to function composition. More generally, in category theory, the morphisms of an object to itself form a monoid, and, conversely, a monoid may be viewed as a category with a single object.

In computer science and computer programming, the set of strings built from a given set of characters is a free monoid. Transition monoids and syntactic monoids are used in describing finite-state machines. Trace monoids and history monoids provide a foundation for process calculi and concurrent computing.

In theoretical computer science, the study of monoids is fundamental for automata theory (Krohn–Rhodes theory), and formal language theory (star height problem).

"Take, Lord, receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, my whole will, all that I have and all that I possess. You gave it all to me, Lord; I give it all back to you. Do with it as you will, according to your good pleasure. Give me your love and your grace; for with this I have all that I need."
How did St Ignatius pray?
to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for reward, save that of knowing that I do your will.

St Albert was the son of a German nobleman. He was studying in Padua when the then master of the Dominicans attracted him to become a Dominican priest. He became one of the greatest glories of the Dominican Order. He taught Philosophy and Theology in Paris, even teaching Thomas Aquinas. In 1260, he was ordained Bishop of Ratisborn. He died in Cologne on November 15th 1280, was beatified in 1622, and Pope Pius XI canonized him in 1931. He is patron of scientists and inventors.

PRAYER:

Two of the biggest problems in the world today:

"Razors (philosophy)"

Je ne sais pas et je m'en fiche

The Origin of the Terms Big-Endian and Little-Endian

The terms big-endian and little-endian were introduced by Danny Cohen in 1980 in Internet Engineering Note 137, a memorandum entitled "On Holy Wars and a Plea for Peace", subsequently published in print form in IEEE Computer 14(10).48-57 (1981). He borrowed them from Jonathan Swift, who in Gulliver's Travels (1726) used them to describe the opposing positions of two factions in the nation of Lilliput. The Big-Endians, who broke their boiled eggs at the big end, rebelled against the king, who demanded that his subjects break their eggs at the little end. Here is the relevant passage:

It began upon the following occasion.
It is allowed on all hands, that the primitive way of breaking eggs before we eat them, was upon the larger end: but his present Majesty's grandfather, while he was a boy, going to eat an egg, and breaking it according to the ancient practice, happened to cut one of his fingers. Whereupon the Emperor his father published an edict, commanding all his subjects, upon great penalties, to break the smaller end of their eggs.
The people so highly resented this law, that our Histories tell us there have been six rebellions raised on that account, wherein one Emperor lost his life, and another his crown. These civil commotions were constantly formented by the monarchs of Blefuscu, and when they were quelled, the exiles always fled for refuge to that Empire.
It is computed, that eleven thousand persons have, at several times, suffered death, rather than submit to break their eggs at the smaller end. Many hundred large volums have been published upon this controversy: but the books of the BigEndians have been long forbidden, and the whole party rendered incapable by law of holding employments.
During the course of these troubles, the emperors of Blefuscu did frequently expostulate by their ambassadors, accusing us of making a schism in religion, by offending against a fundamental doctrine of our great prophet Lustrog, in the fiftyfourth chapter of the Brundecral (which is their Alcoran). This, however, is thought to be a mere strain upon the text: for their words are these; That all true believers shall break their eggs at the convenient end: and which is the convenient end, seems, in my humble opinion, to be left to every man's conscience, or at least in the power of the chief magistrate to determine.

This passage is a satire on the conflict between the Roman Catholic church and the Church of England and the associated conflict between France and England.

Lilliput and Blefuscu are two fictional island nations that appear in the first part of the 1726 novel Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift. The two islands are neighbours in the South Indian Ocean, separated by a channel 800 yards (730 m) wide. Both are inhabited by tiny people who are about one-twelfth the height of ordinary human beings. Both kingdoms are empires, i.e. realms ruled by a self-styled emperor. The capital of Lilliput is Mildendo. In some pictures, the islands are arranged like an egg, as a reference to their egg-dominated histories and cultures.

In computing, endianness refers to the order of bytes (or sometimes bits) within a binary representation of a number. It can also be used more generally to refer to the internal ordering of any representation, such as the digits in a numeral system or the sections of a date
Quantum dots (QDs) are tiny semiconductor particles a few nanometres in size, having optical and electronic properties that differ from larger particles due to quantum mechanics. They are a central topic in nanotechnology. When the quantum dots are illuminated by UV light, an electron in the quantum dot can be excited to a state of higher energy. In the case of a semiconducting quantum dot, this process corresponds to the transition of an electron from the valence band to the conductance band. The excited electron can drop back into the valence band releasing its energy by the emission of light. This light emission (photoluminescence) is illustrated in the figure on the right. The color of that light depends on the energy difference between the conductance band and the valence band.

Miniaturizing particle accelerators

Particle accelerators are usually associated with large national facilities. Because photons are able to impart momentum to electrons, there are also efforts to develop laser-based particle accelerators.

What are quantum dots?

Quantum dots (QDs) are man-made nanoscale crystals that that can transport electrons. When UV light hits these semiconducting nanoparticles, they can emit light of various colors. These artificial semiconductor nanoparticles that have found applications in composites, solar cells and fluorescent biological labels.

Serenity inside Sells ventures, lease options and charters from Texas By David Vincent Bell Hirsch Frank Zappa - Valley Girl Valleytronics (from valley and electronics) is an experimental area in semiconductors that exploits local minima ("valleys") in the electronic band structure . Certain semiconductors have multiple "valleys" in the electronic band structure of the first Brillouin zone , and are known as multivalley semiconductors. [1] [2] Valleytronics is the technology of control over the valley degree of freedom, a local maximum/minimum on the valence / conduction band , of such multivalley semiconductors. The term was coined in analogy to spintronics . While in spintronics the internal degree of freedom of spin is harnessed to store, manipulate and read out bits of information, the proposal for valleytronics is to perform similar tasks using the multiple extrema of the band structure, so that the information of 0s and 1s would be stored as diff
